Have I mentioned how much I love intimate backyard weddings? There’s just something magical about the feeling of having your closest friends and family celebrate your love in the most intimate of settings. Alex and Nick’s day was one that I’ll never forget, and I can’t wait to watch their love story further unfold.
A & N were yet again one of the couples who had to make some adjustments due to COVID. They originally were planning a larger, more traditional wedding, but ended up downsizing when there were heavy event restrictions. Then, two days before their smaller wedding, Nick’s dad tested positive for COVID. They of course postponed again, but their original photographer wasn’t available for their new date. That’s where I came in! They threw a beautifully simple backyard wedding with their nearest and dearest, and it was just perfect.
Even though it was different from how she originally pictured the day, Alex kept saying to me, “I am SO. HAPPY. I can’t imagine getting married any other way.”
I’ve heard that sentiment from every one of my couples this year, and it’s one that I hope sticks around long after things go back to ‘normal.’ You can celebrate your love in whatever way feels true to you, and if getting married with only your ten favorite people around you feels right, don’t feel pressured to invite more. Your wedding day can be whatever you want it to be, and what matters most is that you get to marry your partner.
So if you’re planning a wedding, I want you to realize that having a tiny gathering is not just a backup option, or a compromise; it can be a decision in its own right — a way to get married that is unique and personal, heartfelt and full. Pandemic or not, the world is always an uncertain place, so starting your marriage with an intentional experience is its own form of certainty — celebration in the face of chaos.
