Intimate Backyard Wedding on Cape Cod | Charlotte + Stephen

WEDDINGS

Charlotte and Stephen’s intimate backyard wedding on the Cape was so beautiful and full of love, it’s honestly hard to know where to start.

Intimate Backyard Wedding in Cape Cod Family Home

This was one of those weddings where every inch of the property told a story. Charlotte and Stephen wed at Charlotte’s late grandmother’s home in West Falmouth, MA. A classic Cape home full of personal details and family collectibles – books, fossils, plants, textiles. The perfect portrait of life and family.

I couldn’t imagine a more perfect backyard wedding on the Cape if I tried. When I say “perfect,” I truly mean it. Everything from the sunlight and the full-bloom hydrangeas to the food and music and laughter and dancing was perfection to the core. Hosting your wedding at a family home holds so much sentimental value. The history and memories attached to the home just made everything feel more intimate and special.

How They Met

Charlotte and Stephen met many years ago working at the Evolution Store in NYC. In 2019, they reconnected and later got engaged at the Bronx Zoo in September 2020.

One detail I loved about their wedding is that their invitations had an image of ammonite (and I got to use a couple of their fossils in the flat lay!), which is a sweet nod to the jobs where they first met. It’s a specific detail that’s so unique to them and the start of their love story.

More about Charlotte and Stephen

Charlotte and Stephen are so lovely, laid-back, and fun. I actually had the pleasure of shooting their engagement photos at the same location last summer! Each time I come to this property I feel so lucky to witness the beauty and nostalgia of the home. Charlotte grew up spending summers at her grandmother’s house, so it always feels super homey and welcoming.

The Magic of Intimate Backyard Weddings

I could talk for hours about how special this intimate backyard wedding on the Cape was. I’ve never seen two people so joy-filled and teary-eyed after their ceremony, and honestly I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t crying too.

Every shingle on the house, every stone in the wall, every book on the shelf; the play of shadows, the sound of the screen door, the hydrangeas planted by Charlotte’s mother — it all adds to the spirit and emotion of the day.

From start to finish, Charlotte’s refrain was “I’m just so happy,” and I think that really sums up the feeling of the day. Isn’t that what weddings are all about, anyway? All-consuming, unbridled, happiness. It was an honor to capture these once-in-a-lifetime moments in a place already bursting with beautiful memories.

So here’s a little ode to the details of their day and the wonderful families and vendors who were part of it. A sweet reminder that the magic of backyard weddings is so much more than just one day in a life, but an entire lifetime in one day.
