I’ve always adored the Boston Public Library. It’s no secret that it’s one of the most iconic venues in the city — with stunning architecture, a treasured history, and that European-inspired charm, every photo taken here feels like a dream. So when Emily and Michael reached out, I knew their Boston Public Library wedding would be something special — and it absolutely was.
The Boston Public Library is a perfect venue for couples who love historic spaces. Built in the late 1800s, the BPL is full of architectural charm and grandeur. Think arched windows, sweeping marble staircases, and various grand halls and courtyards that transport you to another time. Every corner feels storied — basically a wedding photographer’s dream setting for capturing love, especially on film!
Emily & Michael’s Wedding Details
Emily and Michael’s spring Boston Public Library wedding was the definition of timeless. I captured their portraits on the marble staircase on film and digital while the early evening light came streaming in. They turned into some of my favorite photos I’ve taken this year.
Their ceremony took place in the courtyard, surrounded by guests seated beneath the venue’s dramatic arches. Emily is Chinese-American, so pops of red were a theme throughout the day — from the invitations to the florals to her stunning reception dress. Every detail felt thoughtful and cohesive, making E & M’s Boston Public Library wedding feel undeniably them.
The iconic Bates reading room, with its soaring ceilings and rows of green reading lamps, was transformed into an unforgettable wedding reception. Long tables lined the space, adorned with soft candlelight and bold blooms. The rows of library books turned into an added decor moment of their own. Dining between the stacks of books only added to the romance of the room.
It’s hard to imagine a more poetic setting for the start of Emily & Michael’s next chapter.
