I’ve been lucky enough to document so many memorable engagements over the years but it’s not everyday that I feel right at home while doing so. Last fall, Rachel and Michael invited me to capture their at home Brooklyn engagement session in their Williamsburg apartment. We had such a nice time just hanging out in the home they built together and around their borough – photographing them in their element was a dream.
A bit about Rachel & Michael
If you’ve ever known that effortlessly cool, laid-back couple living out their dreams together in the city – these two are it. R + M met and fell in love in New York City and as they say, the rest is history. They both work in creative fields – she’s a swimwear designer and home baker, and Michael works in media. Together for 5 1/2 years, they enjoy the city life alongside their handsome pup, Oliver. Their ideal weekend looks something like watching SpongeBob in the morning and ending the night with homemade pizzas and a game of Monopoly. So that’s exactly how their session went (well, at least the pizza making part!)
We immediately hit it off on our initial phone call, so right off the bat I knew the relaxed and playful feel they wanted for their at home Brooklyn engagement session. R + M’s easygoing and creative energy jived so well with mine, I felt like we could’ve chatted for hours. Not to mention, they’re both hilarious. I was laughing throughout the entire session with them, which made those candid photo moments all the more genuine. We goofed around at home, making pizza and playing with the pup, and then we ventured around their block to take in the city and Williamsburg waterfront views. After all, what’s a Brooklyn engagement session without some stoop photos?
Why at home engagement sessions feel extra special…
To have R + M let me into their lives for an afternoon is an immense honor. As a wedding photographer, being a part of sessions like this one are always so humbling. It’s such a special thing to be invited into a couple’s home to document their love in its truest form. When I look back, these are the kind of days that stick with me the most.
I’m so stoked to continue documenting their beautiful story at their Martha’s Vineyard wedding this September!
