Karen and Saúl’s intimate destination wedding in San Miguel de Allende was full of color in more ways than one. Their wedding weekend, featured in The Boston Globe, was thoughtful, vibrant and deeply personal. A perfect reminder that destination weddings can still feel wonderfully intimate.
Karen and Saúl’s Love Story
Karen & Saúl hired me almost 2 years in advance of their intimate destination wedding in San Miguel de Allende, so I was lucky enough to work closely with them throughout the planning process. They’re both incredibly thoughtful, intelligent, and kind people. Despite describing themselves as natural introverts, they really opened their hearts up to me and Max. Allowing us to capture some of the most intimate parts of their lives was such an honor. (I also photographed their city hall elopement in Boston about a month before the big day in MX!)
Their love story is a beautiful one (read more about it in their Boston Globe feature feature), but what stood out most to me throughout the weekend was the way they intentionally created space to simply be present with the people they love most.
They chose San Miguel de Allende for their intimate destination wedding because of Saúl’s family roots. His parents are from a nearby town, making the destination feel both meaningful and connected to his family’s history.
San Miguel Wedding told on Film, Digital & Super8
Karen and Saúl had a small guest count of about 50 people, so the whole weekend felt like an intimate gathering of their closest friends and family. The ceremony was held in the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, the most iconic landmark in the city. The reception followed at Casa Cariño, the same place where the bride and groom got ready.
Their ceremony at the breathtaking Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel was truly unforgettable. Stepping out into the colorful streets of San Miguel afterward just added to the celebration, surrounded by joy and music. K & S spent the rest of the evening celebrating at their private villa, Casa Cariño, where candlelight, vibrant florals, and endless dancing carried everyone into the evening.
One of my favorite parts of documenting destination weddings is having the opportunity to tell a fuller story. For Karen and Saúl, that began the day before the wedding as we wandered through the colorful streets of San Miguel together. We were able to slow down, explore the city, and document moments that felt relaxed, natural, and completely true to them. It’s one of the reasons my destination wedding packages always include a day-before session.
Throughout the weekend, it was so special to capture so much on film. Shooting a mix of digital, film, on Super8, alongside my husband Max is a dream come true. There is something so timeless about preserving a destination wedding this way. The movement of the streets, the feeling of loved ones gathering, and the little in-between moments all become part of a story that feels just as vivid years later.
